Great And Small A Good Time Was Had By All! By Susan R. Stoltz

This past weekend I had the privilege to participate in the PACC911 (Phoenix Animal Care Coalition) event in Phoenix, Arizona. PACC911 is an organization formed to help the animal rescue groups in the area. Here is a bit about them from their website!

“PACC911 brings together the many animal welfare organizations from throughout Maricopa County in an interactive manner, providing opportunities for all to work together for the greater benefit of the animals. PACC911 focuses on assisting the rescue groups in four distinct ways…adoption events, fundraising, education and medical assistance through the new PACC911 Emergency Medical Fund. PACC911 has sparked a new spirit of cooperation amongst the partnering humane community now working in harmony as PACC members!”

The focus of the weekend was to adopt dogs and make some much-needed cash for the rescue groups. The weather was warm, the setting was beautiful and 115 dogs were adopted that day! Much ceremony was made for each with the ringing of a large bell and an introduction of each new adoption. It was a great success with a positive atmosphere of celebration and happiness.

The Jack Russell Rescue set up the lure course, always a big hit with dogs and their owners. Sharkey was indeed fortunate in that she was able to demonstrate to one and all how to run the course in the appropriate manner and was very adept at showing the proper enthusiasm that was probably heard by all at the event. I know my ears are still ringing with her screeching! At the end of the day she had run ten times and was one tired pup. It was interesting to watch which dogs were anxious to run the course and which wouldn’t give it a second look. The greyhounds seemed to have no interest – which surprised me. There was a St. Bernard that really enjoyed it though the jumps posed almost no challenge to him at all! In total over 160 dogs ran the course and our rescue brought in some much needed revenue.

PACC911 is a great organization and includes an Emergency Medical Fund to help rescues with dogs that come in needing medical care. They helped with Marshall’s bills when Sandy and the group swooped him up from the puppy mill. The board of directors consists of many rescue organization leaders and they are proactive in their support with a positive attitude and a helping hand. Wouldn’t it be great if every large metropolitan area had such a group to be of assistance and rally round the good efforts of rescue?

Good job Sharkey. We love agility too, but are not as good at it as you. Not enough hours in the day for naps and Q's. Next weekend while I?m playing on this hop, I?ll also be hosting one at my blog. I?d love to have you join in to help homeless bunny friends find furever homes. Check it out http://www.allthingsdogblog.com/2011/04/easter-rabbit-adoptathon-blog-hop.html
